Several months ago I conducted a survey to find out what network marketers really wanted to learn, and what MLM training topics would be helpful to them. I discovered an overwhelming number wanted to learn more about successful duplication within their network marketing organization. Some specific questions were asked and I am answering them here.
Q. What is the most important thing that a good MLM leader should duplicate within his or her network marketing organization?
A: A successful action. I know that sounds funny but that really is what it comes down to. You've got to duplicate something that is doable and simple so that it doesn't require an enormous amount of training at each level within your MLM system.
That's not to undermine training, but if what you're trying to duplicate is so complicated that you can't get very ordinary, average people to do it - if it requires you to have just completely brilliant people - then you're going to be limited.
What ever it is that you're duplicating...let's just say that it's a script for making outbound phone calls but this script has got a lot of words in it that the person delivering the script has a hard time with. Not only that, but the person receiving it has a hard time with those words. That's not going to duplicate easily within your MLM business. So that's the first thing - make sure that you're duplicating something that is simple to learn and grasp.
Q: In your own network marketing organization that you built how did you figure out what to do and what to duplicate?
A: While building my MLM business, I learned that the first thing to do is to build a prototype that actually works. When I define the word "work" I mean that you as an individual are able to make a customer happy. And once you make that customer happy you've got to write it out - write out exactly what you did. Then follow your own written procedures and see if you can recreate that same happy customer in another person.
How this worked for me is that I just looked over my product line and what suited me best (my company sold personal care products). I noticed that I was around a whole bunch (being in the Navy) of guys that had bad skin , acne, problem skin. So I first got successful with myself. I had a similar situation with my skin so I used the products and found the best combinations and so forth that got me results.
From that I was able to get four other guys that were in my unit to do the same process. I wrote up what it was that I did and then I showed them how simple it was and that they too could help people that they knew and saw that had problem skin. I ended up with this whole group of rough, tough, macho guys out there selling this mud that pulled impurities out of the skin. That was the way that my network marketing organization began to duplicate.
Q: Did you find it was easy to teach your MLM downline to do exactly what you had done?
A: NO! That's where you have to perfect your system. You have to continually work on your systems to ensure that those systems are in place and are workable. And then this is the part that can get you - once a person figures out how to get success - the greatest seduction, I believe, in all of life is to always want to continue to DO that, instead of TEACH that. Because it seems easier to do than having the patience to sit back and allow that other person to make the same errors and mistakes that you made.
I think that is perhaps the greatest difficulty in leadership. I think that every one of the books that are out there on leadership - that's the part that I've always seen that's missing. Having the patience to just sit there and watch and observe, and see people in your group make mistakes but not correct them at that particular moment but...to sit back and say, "Alright is this a systematic thing that I need to change? Or is this something specific to this individual that I need to change?"
I'll give you an example for this. There's a lady in my network marketing organization now, and she has absolutely resisted being a public speaker and speaking in front of more than one or two people at a time. I started off encouraging her to just stand up and do nothing but introduce me. And of course she fought it, and she needed to prepare for it for a week, and things like that. But in the process, I taught her how to teach herself, if you will. In other words, I told her, "Okay, what you need to do is set up a teddy bear or some kind of stuffed animal that you're communicating to and then talk to it."
So, the next time I'm speaking at one of her events, I'm listening to her introduce me, and I walk into the back of the room and no one can hear her back there. Of course, I'm not going to correct her in that moment so I wait and then I praise her. The rule is that you praise twice and correct once. If you ever get those ratios out of order then you're going to have basically a "tucked tail." That's what they call it in the dog training world. When you're training a dog, if the tail goes below parallel to the back, you stop training that dog (because he's starting to feel "whipped") and you praise the dog. So, in a similar way, you praise twice and correct once with people.
With this lady, I waited until it came back around again that she was going to be presenting our team's MLM business briefing. What I said to her was, "Okay, it does you no good to prepare and plan and train yourself if the people can't hear you. And so what I want you to do is to read aloud to your children." She's got two kids and she had already told me that she reads to them every night. I told her, "What I'd like you to do is put them on the other side of the room; don't cuddle up in the bed with them. Be on the other side of the room and you read to them."
She tried that and of course she emailed me back and she said, "That was unbelievable! The kids kept saying, 'We can't hear you Mom!'" She began to figure out, "Oh, okay. I have to project my voice. That sound has to get to the back of the room. Just because the front of the room hears it, it doesn't mean that the whole room hears it."
So this is what I'm talking about. That was something that was specific to that person that I had to assess - "Okay, there is something that she needs help with. What specific thing does she need training in?" Then I figured out a way to teach her to do that.
Now, she was just on a radio talk show and she's been requested to come back and be a speaker in this community of events that happens every week. She is becoming that public speaker that she resisted being for so long. And of course, now she ABSOLUTELY LOVES IT. I've seen her speak; she's good.
Being a great MLM leader means developing a simple, workable system and then having the patience to teach others - in spite of the discomfort of sitting through their mistakes. It's not always easy but it can be really profitable for you.

2 Ways to Market Your Network Marketing Business Opportunity Today
In the old days if you were going to market your network business opportunity that meant making a list of everyone you knew. You were taught to really dig deep and make the longest list you could think of. This would include a special list called your chicken list which would be the most successful people you knew, but were afraid to contact.
Then you would pick up the phone and invite them to an opportunity meeting to listen to an expert stand up and tell everyone about the opportunity to start a business of their own in network marketing. This was not a bad system except for one thing. It really did not work because most people were afraind to pick up the phone and start making calls.
The days of this type of a system are over. Unless that is the way you want to do it. The reason so many people are making money in network marketing today starts with how easy it is to present the business opportunity to people you do not know. That is not to say you can't make a list of people you know and contact them. You can and you should.
But now it is as easy as inviting them to vist your website or to listen to a conference call live or even a pre-recoreded call. This type of prospecting takes away the fear factor and allows your prospect to check out what you are doing in a casual way.
Personally I like to hand out business cards with my website on it and just ask them to take a look and if they are interested give me a call. Anyone with a little ambition can do this. At Vistaprint.com you can get 250 free business cards and personalize them with your name, address, phone number, email address, and website address.
The other way to market your network business opportunity today is to drive traffic to your website and let the company take over from there. Most mlm companies today give you several of your own websites with your i.d. number coded in the url itself. They also have an email follow-up system in place that is customized with your contact information in each email. The purpose of having more than 1 website is you can refer your prospects to different websites based on how well you know them.
If you know someone well you might send them to one website that provides alot of information. If you are promoting on the internet you would refer your prospect to a lead capture page that requires them to fill out their name, phone, and email address, before being sent to another website that is more of a sales page on your business.
The information is then emailed to you for personal follow-up if you like. In the meantime the company email follow-up system kicks in and starts sending your prospect information emails with your name in them designed to educate your prospect about your company and products.
Handing out business cards and marketing your business on the internet with websites and conference call makes it easier for anyone to market a network marketing opportunity today. Easier does mean easy. To make money with your own mlm business still is going to require you to work. The beauty of how it is done today, however, is that automation allows you to build your business quicker and to present your opportunity to more people than you ever could have in the past.

Explode Your Network Marketing Business Through the Power of the Internet
One of the biggest obstacles that face all network marketers is the knowledge of building a network marketing business fast. It has long been held that it is easier to grow a large networking business fast than it is to build small networking business slowly. Although this is understood, the problem is the lack of knowledge that is available on the subject.
Most marketers complain of the age old problem of getting their down line to duplicate what they are doing to grow their own business. And in turn, many of the new network distributors complain of the lack of support from their Sponsor. The Internet has now leveled the playing field and made this entire process much, much easier.
One of the most unique ways the Internet has helped network marketing, is that allows us to pool our resources much easier. Rather than an individual having to struggle with a small budget for advertising, a team can club together and form an advertising co-op.
When you form an advertising co-op, it allows your new distributors to learn the business slowly from other leaders in your organization. This will give them success in the early days which will then encourage them to stay with you and build their teams with you.
In order to run a co-op successfully, you are going to need certain tools.
To spread the leads out evenly, you are going to need rotator software. As it suggests this software rotates between the lead capture pages of those in your organization giving everyone the opportunity to gain recruits through your marketing system.
You need to maintain a reasonable size to your co-op. To small and you wont generate the money for sufficient advertising. To large and you wont get sufficient click through rate to keep the team happy.
The advertising needs to be spread across a wide variety of medias. Ezine advertising, pay per click, press releases and lead purchase programs are just a few of these.
In order for the co-op to be successful, you need to keep the entry to the co-op exclusive to your personal down line members. This way, everyone that is recruited is going to be in your personal down line and your entire team will benefit from the co-op as a whole.
Without anyone of the above, your co-op could be doomed to failure.
By leaving out the rotator, your co-op members will not receive their fair share of leads.
If you dont spread advertising across various forms of media, you are running the risk of your chosen strategy back firing on you and not delivering sufficient leads. You also risk missing out on a large number of your target market.
If you allow other parts of your company to join your co-op, you are effectively giving them your organizations recruits. That would be like Texaco allowing Shell to sell their gas in Texaco gas stations. There would be no benefit for Texaco, but a whole lot of benefit for Shell.
An advertising co-op that is run effectively can cause massive and accelerated growth within your network marketing business.

How To Make Your Network Marketing Prospect Base Explode
As a network marketer, you know how important it is to drive traffic to your website. As a mater of fact, your very survival depends on it.
There is an often over-looked area of marketing that is ignored by many in network marketing. This area is offline marketing. While the Internet is a source used by many, there are also thousands of prospects that can be presented with your MLM business opportunity through offline sources. Here are eight offline strategies that you can use to expand your network marketing prospect, and, in turn, explode your business.
1. Use a small zip close bag and include, for example, the following in it:
- a business card
- a business opportunity flyer or mini flyer
- a discount coupon
- a mini flyer of current special
Hand our the baggies to bank tellers, retail cashiers, at your kids sport events, etc. In other words, everywhere you go!This is a quick and easy way to let folks know what you are about.
2. Print flyers with your contact information, your website address, and email address, along with any current specials you are offering. Then, contact mobile home park office, apartment complex rental offices, housing developments, etc., and ask for permission to leave flyers in their office or hand on tenant doors. You would also give the office employees a free gift or discount on your product or service.
4. Contact local bridal supply stores, bridal gown stores, caterers, tux rental centers, wedding DJ's, etc. When contacting them, ask if you can leave your business card with them as well as a flyer for their customers to pick up.
5. Don't overlook daycare centers! They are excellent places to contact and leave business cards and/or flyers. Make sure that for whatever company you represent, you find items that cater specifically to children or moms. Make sure your flyer clearly shows this.
6. Contact your local churches. A lot of churches hold spring and fall festivals, Christmas bazaars, plan special events around Thanksgiving, etc. Contact them about getting a table or booth. This is a very inexpensive way (generally less than $15 a table)to promote your network marketing business.
7. Connect with your local Chamber of Commerce. Many times they hold local business events that you can participate in.
8. Do you have a college in your town? If so, great! College students are always looking to lose weight, spend money, and for more ways to generate extra income. Remember, how broke you were in college? So, students are also great prospects for your MLM business opportunity.
As you can see, this is just a small list of endless strategies that you can use to market your business offilne as well as build a great MLM prospect list. Try one or more of these strategies to start off with, and watch your network marketing business explode!

10 Common Mistakes to Avoid For Network Marketing Newbies
You have heard by now the staggering truth that 95% of people fail in MLM? I strongly believe that among the 95%, there are sincere, hardworking people who work hard to make the business work for them, but are spending most of their time and money doing all the wrong things!
Avoiding these wrong things saves you the valuable time (some people in MLM do the wrong things for years) so you can learn how to do the right things with the time you saved.
1. Trying to comprehend everything
If you are new in your company and you sit down for a few days (some employees may even need weeks before they place an initial telephone call) testing the product, digesting all of the company literature, analyzing every sum relating to the compensation table, committing to memory all of the names of the executives in the company (I think we catch the drift)
This is an extremely laborious method to get underway in your business.
Your business is like riding a bicycle
You do not get to know how to ride by reading the greatest handbook on riding
You do not find out until the minute you begin to peddle
You learn by tumbling off
You also learn how not to fall off after falling off the first time
2. Reading each manuscript in the business
Most MLMs advise a reading catalogue and they are extremely useful for new people, particularly if the information is accurate and enlightening about the industry. Reading is also an exceptionally good practice to develop. But one of the biggest errors that new people make is in believing that the more documentation they read, the greater the amount of money they are going to make. Those types of books are mainly self-help books or network marketing self-improvement.
Most newbies waste excessive amounts of time reading books for a variety of purposes.
They are weighed down by lack of knowledge. Again, they are attempting to comprehend the whole thing before actually getting out there.
They are plagued by apprehension. The paralysis makes them withdraw to their books without meeting people.
They are beleaguered by annoyance. They presume that after reading their first book they will be successful and, if they do not accomplish enough, they get discouraged and experience the desire for self-help even more. They seek a different book. If they do not succeed again, they will hold themselves responsible once more. Always remember; books are one-sided. It might be successful for the author but not for another.
3. Performing the work on their own during the first month
Network marketing is not bothered if you are a CEO, industrialist, director, housewife, university student or a vagrant. If you are new to the business then you start from nothing.
If you think that you can bring in a six figure income in 2 to 5 years time without following a structure then you are clutching at straws. There are those in conventional business who do succeed in only a short time but everyone learns from somebody and network marketing is no exception.
Here is a case in point:
There is a guy who is a knowledgeable businessman. He began in network marketing and wished to do it his own way. He hired a workplace, employed a few personnel, formed a sales group and dispatched them after paying a few hundred thousand dollars on capital only. After 3 months, his business had zilch to show for it.
What had occurred? One of the major reasons for his lack of success was the reality that network marketing is not designed to be run using this approach. His employees or sales team will not be able to reproduce this method.
There are uplines guides to lead you and they do not charge you when you request advice. I would approach them like an ill man would visit a medical specialist rather than an engineer.
4. Giving up your job
Network Marketing is a business like any other business. Do not con yourself into thinking that you are going to have to burn all of your bridges and invest everything you have got without any means of making any money for the next 6 months.
There is an old adage that says; if the only tool I have is a hammer, all my problems will look like nails. In network marketing, every form of monetary strain may destroy your prospects because you will constantly view them as money bags prior to and even once they get in.
Some veteran networkers only think about quitting their job when the earnings in their business equal at least twice their existing revenue.
5. Selling the business or I have a business prospect for you
What you are doing at the moment will be duplicated downline. Most people would concur that 80-90% of the populace are not qualified sales people.
Most people who are unable to sell, sell items that do not resolve other peoples issues, to people who do not like being sold to and who label you as a shady salesman attempting to pick their pockets.
This means that most newbies make the error of attempting to sell the prospect to others (who do not want to be enlisted or sold to). People are in search of answers to their problems consequently pitching the prospect typically appears to potential buyers as just a method of the business builder to get their hands on their money. This frequently leads to:
6. Entreating people to join
New distributors become so desperate to recruit people that they end up appearing like fancy beggars in suits. They pitch and sell and pitch and sell so much that prospects become fearful of them. Some even hound their prospects.
Always bear in mind that the ball is in your court. They are the ones who need the opportunity and you are assisting them to appreciate this. Do not try to influence them. Alternatively, when you begin helping people out of a legitimate concern, working through their issues, they will start paying attention to you and will request the opportunities.
7. Explaining the business by telephone
The reason for a phone call is to encourage the prospect. If telephone calls can seal all the deals, then no one will have to hold opportunity meetings any longer or hire offices. People would just be seated at home and call people to become millionaires.
Once your purpose is extremely obvious that you are just inviting, you will not bewilder people by chatting about the opening, merchandise or plan. Bear in mind, the person on the other end of the telephone will still have an opportunity to say no to you, even after you have explained the whole thing for an hour or so, and that is one thing you definitely do not want.
8. Telling prospects that this is not MLM or network marketing
Most newbies are so anxious or uncomfortable when the prospects ask these dreadful questions:
Is this MLM?
Is this one of those networking things?
Is this one of those pyramid selling things?
Are you attempting to enlist me into one of those Direct Selling things?
Most will say, Um, no its not. Yeah it is a MLM but we are not really selling... hello? Hello??
Ever get those sinking feelings?
9. Never tell stories to your prospects. It makes you look bad and people are not dim. Either tell them openly that it IS an MLM or Networking business (we should be proud that we are in a multi-million dollar industry) or turn the question around by asking, What do you mean is it MLM what do you think about MLM? Then let him, or her, give you their answer. Book a meeting after that.
Remember: If you are guarded about what you are doing, your prospects will feel that they will have to do similar if they join you.
10. Deceiving my friends into an opportunity meeting
An additional gigantic error: asking your friends or prospects out for a drink and then taking them to an opportunity meeting without telling them that it is an opportunity meeting.
You achieve nothing by hiding things from your prospects. Be open and proud of what you are doing! Use confidence, not deception.
Remember, avoiding the wrong things saves you the valuable time (some people in MLM do the wrong things for years) so you can learn how to do the right things with the time you saved.
Is this practical stuff or just theory? Must I do the wrong things myself to prove that it is really wrong so I can feel it for real? Well, A mother does not need to go on drugs in order to prove to her child that they should avoid drugs now...?
Remember that in MLM, just like in real life that we must learn from the mistakes of others. We do not have all the time in the world to make all the mistakes ourselves!

2 Simple Ways To Get Paid For Generating Leads
You've heard the saying "where there's a will there's a way." This applies to lead generation too. If you're strapped for cash, but still motivated to generate leads then this article might just make your day.
Any marketer worth their salt is laughing at this article's title right now. You see, they are already getting paid to generate leads because their profits are far exceeding their advertising costs. Sadly, this is rarely the case for newcomers to this industry.
So let's cut to the chase. You want some quality leads, and you want to know how get paid to generate them. Let's begin.
Tactic #1 - Paper Placemats
You've seen them at your favorite restaurant. Sometimes they are plain, sometimes they have a map of the city printed on them with advertisements placed around the perimeter.
Here's where you come in. Start thinking about selling advertising instead of buying it. You can easily sell advertising in these spots, insert your own ad for free, and let the restaurant owner place whatever ad they want in the center.
You'll have a tidy profit leftover after you get done paying your printing costs, and the restaraunt will love you for giving then free placemats when they previously had to pay for them!
Yes, lead generation can be, and should be, simple.
Tactic #2 - Amazing Fish Bowls
The simplicity of this strategy may just blow your mind when you see how effective it is. You've seen the fish bowls at restaurants typically where you drop your business card and enter a drwaing for a free meal...or whatever the business sells. Guess what, there's money in those fish bowls for you, and lots of it.
Let's say you take over the fish bowls. The restaurant has their weekly drawing and you come along and pick up the leftover business cards. You then extract the contact information from each of the cards. Make sure you require an email address to win the drawing. Now you are building a contact list of the restaurant's patrons! You keep the list and allow the restaurant to broadcast emails to their customers any time they like with daily specials etc in exchange for, you guessed it, the right to send your own non-competing advertisements to the subscriber list.
Once you've built a list for one restaurant you can easily sell advertising space to other local businesses hence again letting someone else pay you to insert your advertisement. You can easily build 100's of contacts every week from a single restaurant using this method.
There are many, many ways to get paid to generate leads. If I had time I'd probably write down more of them! So get creative and start thinking about selling advertising instead of buying it. This minor adjustment to your thinking may radically change how you generate leads. Then eventually your primary business will pay for your advertising through profits and you wont need to do the extra footwork required by these methods.
Either way, no more excuses about lacking leads!
Where there's a will, there's a way. Plain and simple. So long as you remain committed to your enterprise there are always ways to succeed.
